This latest kitchen remodel has created stunning results by opening up the floor plan and creating a whole new atmosphere.  By utilizing existing cabinetry, repurposing where possible and reupholstering instead of filling the landfill, we have created a beautiful and functioning space and gone "Green" at the same time!

The first step in opening up the floor plan was to open up the end wall by removing the bay window.  The area beyond had been turned into a sunroom...and as you will see in the upcoming pictures it became the perfect place for the new breakfast table and china cabinet!

The new open wall is supported with 2 columns and the transition at floor level was accomplished with travertine tile and onyx trim.

The existing oak cabinetry had been custom built and was still in great condition.  It had been in place for some time and had a dated look with brass hardware, but also was not pleasing visually.  There was a deep soffit in place above the upper cabinets and wide doors add to the short and squat look.  Our plan included reducing the soffet and placing cabinet components above.  By adding taller doors to cover both the existing and new wall cabinet frames, we created height and added storage to the space.

As you can see from the After photo, the cabinets have been totally

transformed by raising the soffit and then applying a soft cream

paint and completing the look with a chocolate glaze finish.  The

bronze hardware, rope trim above and embellishments over the

sink as well as the corbels flanking the sink area, complete this

Country French look the homeowner loves!

The end wall separating the kitchen from the dining room was also opened up and the existing full height pantry unit was relocated to an adjoining laundry area.  The very small center island was greatly enlarged to a much more workable space complete with overhang on the end for counter stools to slide under.  The entire center island cabinetry is comprised of existing cabinetry pulled from the right wall which is now open to the living room.

The whole wall was opened up after relocating the new refrigerator to the sink wall.  The stove is now a brand new range in a newly created island where the old breakfast table sat previously.

The old double wall ovens at the far end of the wall was left

in place and converted into a butler's pantry.  We cut the

panels out of existing doors and had glass cut to fit.  The

upper cabinet has in-cabinet lighting and a glass shelf.  In-

cabinet lighting, granite countertop and a wine rack complete

             the transformation.

We needed to address the floor where we opened the wall between the living room and kitchen.  We installed the same travertine subway tiles as in the backsplash, however, we laid them in a herringbone pattern which creates a lot of interest.  The center motif was created by cutting one of the 12"x12" travertine stones we used to segway into the sunroom at the baywindow, and we inserted a section of the mosaic tile used in the backsplash for accent.  This not only creates a beautiful custom look where once there was a design issue, but we also created continuity.

We replaced the sink with an undermount stainless steel with large deep bowls and reused the existing faucet.  Kashmir Gold granite countertops were installed to replace the dated ceramic tile.

The ceramic tile backsplash was also replaced with travertine stone

subway tiles accented with travertine and glass mosaic tiles.

We used these sparingly to keep our budget in line.

This new island was built in front of the old bay window to create a new home for the new Wolf range.  New cabinets flank the stove on each side with a raised bar behind for friends to gather,  The stainless steel range hood takes care of exhaust vented through the roof and a pot filler faucet makes working at the island a breeze!

The sunroom had been under utilized, but now that it has become an integral part of the home, it is where everyone wants to gather!  The breakfast table and china buffet the homeowner selected fits their lifestyle and new decor perfectly.  The chairs were existing ones with a dated look until we painted them to coordinate with the new dining ensemble.  The seats were upholstered to coordinate with the fabrics used in the window treatments.
